International Midwives Day

International Midwives Day, observed annually on May 5, is an opportunity to recognize the efforts of midwives and emphasize their key role in health systems.

This day was officially added to the Gregorian calendar in 1992 by the decision of the International Confederation of Midwives, in order to highlight the importance of the midwifery profession and the role of midwives in maternal and newborn health worldwide.

On this day, various programs and events are held in different countries to raise public awareness about the significance of midwifery care and to support the rights of midwives.

The observance provides a chance to discuss the challenges and achievements of the profession and to stress the need for further education and support for midwives.

In Iran and many other countries, ceremonies and conferences are organized on International Midwives Day, focusing on the contributions of midwives to maternal and child health.
