World Post Day (October 9, Gregorian)
World Post Day (October 9, Gregorian) is observed annually on October 9 to commemorate the anniversary of the founding of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland.
The Universal Postal Union was established to coordinate and standardize postal services among different countries, playing a significant role in the development of international communications.
In 1969, during the Universal Postal Union Congress held in Tokyo, it was officially decided that October 9 would be designated as World Post Day in the international calendar to raise public awareness about the importance of postal services and their role in daily life, as well as in the economic and social development of countries.
Since then, member countries have commemorated this day each year with ceremonies, exhibitions, and educational programs.
In Iran and many other countries, World Post Day is an opportunity to highlight new achievements in the postal sector, acknowledge the contributions of postal workers, and address the challenges facing postal services.
Despite advances in communication technologies, postal services continue to play a vital role in the delivery of documents and goods, and this day serves as a reminder of their ongoing significance in contemporary society.
This observance was officially added to the international calendar in 1969 to emphasize the global importance of postal services.
