Dezful Day (Day of Resistance and Endurance), Khordad 4, commemorates the resilience and steadfastness of the people of Dezful during the Iran-Iraq war. Throughout the conflict, Dezful endured more than 170 missile attacks and heavy bombardments, resulting in significant destruction, civilian casualties, and extensive damage to the city’s infrastructure. Despite severe threats and ongoing pressure, the residents of Dezful did not abandon their city. Their collective endurance and unity played a crucial role in maintaining national morale during the war. The steadfastness of Dezful’s people has become a symbol of resistance in contemporary Iranian history. Each year, ceremonies and commemorative events are held in Dezful and across the country to honor the memory of those who lost their lives and to recognize the sacrifices made by the city’s inhabitants. This observance was officially added to the Iranian calendar in 1988, after the end of the Iran-Iraq war, by decision of the authorities at the time to honor the significant role played by Dezful’s population during the conflict.
